Dr. Reina Yuan Perez
Dr. Reina Yuan Perez graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1993 and then received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry in 1998. She has worked in different modes of practice from private ophthalmology practices to a multi-location LASIK/refractive surgery center. She spent over 13 years as an optometrist in the Eye Department of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, working alongside numerous O.D.’s and M.D.’s. From her vast experience, she is comfortable examining patients young and old. She has taken her experiences from private practice, LASIK centers, and large hospital setting and decided to purchase her own private practice in her hometown, Foster City, CA. She has recently assumed ownership of Foster City Eye Care from Dr. M.S. Purewal, who established the practice in 1978. Dr. Perez is committed to continuing the exemplary example set by Dr. Purewal for excellent eye care and quality customer service. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to serve the people who live and work in this community.
Dr. Perez has had extensive experience in not only providing primary eye exams and contact lens exams, but is proficient in treating red eye emergencies, dry eye disease, and glaucoma. Dr. Perez is a certified to treat glaucoma in the State of California. She is also an active member of the California Optometry Association and Vision Source.
Dr. Perez and her family are very involved in the Foster City community, participating and helping with local events such as the Foster City Art and Wine Festival, July 4th fireworks show and the local Lion’s Club. She and her husband are enjoying raising their two children in Foster City. In her free time, she enjoys Taekwondo (she is a 2nd degree Black Belt), Orangetheory classes and chasing after her two active kids.
Dr. Serena Cox
Serena Cox, OD, is originally from Orlando, FL, and completed her undergraduate work at Stetson University in her home state. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University. At Salus, she graduated with highest honors, was awarded membership to the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society and the Board of Trustees Scholarship, and received the Conforma Contact Lens Award of Excellence.
She recently moved to the Bay Area and comes to us from Allentown Vision Center, a busy, medically oriented multi-doctor private practice in Pennsylvania. At her prior office, she managed many complex adult and pediatric patients with neurological problems, amblyopia, diabetes, and glaucoma. She enjoys practicing full-scope optometry and challenging contact lens fits to help patients restore vision after years of struggling. Using scleral contact lenses, the newest generation of specialty lenses, has been a life-changing experience for her and her patients.
Prior to working at the Allentown Vision Center, she trained at multiple locations including the Feinbloom Low Vision and Rehabilitation Center, which focused on the treatment and rehabilitation of the visually blind and impaired patients with such diseases as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and inherited diseases. Dr. Cox also completed her ocular disease training at a VA hospital and a LASIK ophthalmology practice in Florida. She also had extensive training at a large, nationally recognized premier specialty contact lens practice in Florida.
Dr. Cox is a past Vice President of the Lehigh Valley Optometric Society, current Secretary of the San Mateo Optometric Society, and an active participant in the American Optometric Association. She currently resides in San Carlos and enjoys reading, hiking, traveling, snorkeling and animals, including her two cats. She is thrilled to join Foster City Eye Care and to have the opportunity to serve the people who live and work in this great community.
